Berkeley Academy is accredited by the Costa Rican Ministry of Education (Costa Rican Ministerio de Educacion Publica). It offers the Costa Rican national baccalaureate through the 11th grade.
Berkeley Academy also follows a U.S. curriculum by offering AP Courses, PSAT 8/9, 10, NMSQT Testing approved by College Board. We offer the 12th Grade to ensure that our students fulfill all of the U.S. university and college requirements based on the University of California “a-g” subject requirements.
We are currently one of a few schools in Costa Rica to have College Board Institutional Membership – (Membership I.D. 200682275). We offer the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) program to registered students only.

Yes. Berkeley Academy students must wear their uniforms of the day. However, every alternating Friday, our students have free-dress/non-uniform days.
The primary language of instruction at Berkeley Academy is English. Our Elementary curriculum contains one course (three times a week) in Advanced Spanish that includes social studies, language and civics. Students in Middle School and High School must meet the CR Ministry of Education (MEP) required courses (taught in Spanish) which are: Estudios Sociales (Costa Rican Social Studies) and Civica (Costa Rican Civics). Besides these courses and foreign language requirement (Pre-AP Spanish Language & Culture, AP Spanish Language & Culture, AP Spanish Literature), students receive instruction in English, social studies, math, and science at the honors or AP level.
